Chapter Fourteen

Quinn

Quinn rolled over and tried to pull Marshie closer. He jerked fully awake when his hand met empty space. He sat up in bed, his heart beating wildly. It wasn't until he heard high pitched giggling and the smell of bacon that he calmed down. It sounded like Marshie was in the kitchen with Marcus. Whatever he'd said must have been uproariously funny. Quinn sighed and pulled on his gray sweats from his bag. Last night he'd carried Marshie into this bedroom and placed her down before stripping to his boxers and falling asleep with his arms wrapped around her. He didn't bother with a top as he walked out of Marshie's bedroom and into the kitchen. Marcus was facing the oven stirring something while Marshie was sitting at the breakfast bar. Both had their backs to Quinn.

“'Nother 'Nother!” Marshie pleaded while bouncing on the stool. Quinn felt a full body shiver when Marcus chuckled.

“Alright, Little one, what does a baby computer call her father?”

“Huh?”

“Data,” Marcus chuckled again as Marshie covered her mouth, giggling.

“Another?” he asked as something sizzled on the stove. Quinn studied Marcus' corded back. He was wearing a black tank top that seemed to have been spray painted onto his fine body.

“Pwease, 'nother, pwease,” Marshie pleaded. Quinn smiled at the exchange. Marshie was obviously feeling comfortable with Marcus as she'd slid into her Little Space.

“Okay, last one then we'll set the table and wake Papa. I have a T-Rex who sells me guns...he's a small arms dealer.” This time Quinn couldn't help but let out a chuckle as Marshie clapped and laughed.

T-Rex jokes were always funny.

Marshie squealed and turned toward Quinn while trying to hop off the stool. She got her feet caught up and almost fell off. Luckily, Quinn had started walking closer after the joke so he easily caught her. He pulled her closer and tweaked her nose.

“Whoa, there, Marshie-Pie, don't want my precious baby to get hurt.” He looked up as Marcus had jumped forward. The other man ran a hand over his face as he gave Marshie a haggard look.

“Okay, that's it, Little Miss. No more getting up or down these stools without Papa or D—me to help you.” Quinn arched his eyebrows as Marcus almost called himself Daddy.

“No, I jus' wost my bawance, I no need hep, I'm a big girl!”

“You're not a big girl, you're just a Little girl. You could have hurt yourself, broke your foot, ankle or stubbed your toe. No getting up or down high places without me or Papa.” As ridiculous as those scenarios were, Quinn couldn't help but agree with Marcus. He sat down on the stool and placed Marshie on his lap with her legs between his.

“Marcus is right, Little girl. No more getting up or down these stools without me or Marcus to help you.”

“But, Papa!”

“No buts, babygirl.” Marshie covered her mouth and giggled furiously.

“You said buts.”

“So I did. What's all this?” Quinn looked at the array in front of him. Marcus was placing some bacon on an already full platter that he pulled from the oven.
